Basketball Benefits RIM

(Event sponsored by Michigan Orthopedic Services)

Local radio and television personalities rolled onto the court at Martin Luther King Jr. High School to challenge the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan's award-winning wheelchair basketball team in a benefit game on September 19. More than 1,000 people attended the celebrity event hosted by NBA All-Star and Detroit Piston's Captain Jerry Stackhouse. Stackhouse and many of his Pistons teammates served as coaches for the charity event.

Stackhouse was elected to serve on the Institute's Board of Trustees last fall.

"I am extremely honored to have the privilege of representing the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan in the community," said Stackhouse. "I feel that quality rehabilitation services are very important aspects of care. Having had health challenges in my family, my sense of commitment is strong and I will honor this position with great energy and compassion."

Over $24,000 was raised from the event, which will assist in supporting the Institute's $34 million hospital renovation and expansion project which will include construction of a state-of-the-art, two-story outpatient therapy and fitness center.

With its 94 bed specialty inpatient hospital and 15 outpatient therapy sites throughout southeastern Michigan, Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the nation's largest hospitals specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
