Michigan Orthopedic
Services—Livonia office, has
recently installed an
Orthomerica Starscanner. This
scanner is an FDA approved,
Class 1 scanner that allows for
dramatic improvement by which
pediatric Cranial Remolding
Orthoses (Helmets) are measured,
fabricated, fit, and adjusted.
Many of the children that
require these helmets have
either mis-shapen skulls that
could likely inhibit normal
growth, vision, etc. or have had
surgery where the bone structure
of the skull needs to be
'remolded.' The traditional
method has been to cast patients
with plaster-of-paris bandages,
which is uncomfortable, messy,
and above all very
scary/traumatic for many of our
pediatric patients (Many
children and their parents have
a tough time and often cry
through the casting procedure).
Fortunately, the StarScanner
provides a simple 1.5 second
scan which allows for a
computerized 3-D image of the
patient's head. What's more,
there's no noise, no pain and no
harmful effect that results from
this very simple procedure. The
StarScanner scan can be promptly
sent via the Internet to the
fabrication facility, saving
several days in shipping,
thereby minimizing the time it
typically takes for the patient
to be fit!

Michigan Orthopedic Services
is the only company in Southeast
Michigan to offer this type of
technology. To learn more about
